While parent education is largely done through the home visiting element of our program, TVCRN also offers monthly Family Connection events. These events are usually a time to provide parents and families with additional information that will help them keep their children safe, well, or better prepared for kindergarten. Often times they are an opportunity for positive parent-child interaction as well.

In the eight years TVCRN has been serving the larger Ontario community, among the topics or themes of our Family Connection events have been:

  • What are Germs/The Importance of Hand-washing with St. Alphonsus nurse Nancy Hoffhines
  • Reading to Children with guest children’s author Judy Cox
  • Returning to School with Stephanie Oster from Treasure Valley Community College
  • Good Dental Health with Chrissy Whitworth from Children’s Dentistry
  • Other topics have included exercise/fitness, preventing child sexual abuse, Halloween safety, simple science experiments, and the benefits of music.

We have to thank the Jubitz Family Foundation for sponsoring our Family Connection events from 2013 to 2016! Thanks to the Washington Federal Foundation for sponsoring our Family Connection events in 2017. And, to Diana Pitts and the Elks Foundation as well as Albertsons for providing our families with an amazing Christmas dinner each of the past three years for our December Family Connection event.
