Support for the 2017 TVCRN Children’s Boutique & Baby Quilt Show

Nearly everyone says they are concerned about child abuse, but each year between 50 and 100 quilters, crafters, and artisans put their time and energy into prevention by supporting TVCRN’s annual Children’s Boutique & Baby Quilt Show. Although mostly local, donated quilts have come from as far as Washington State and Colorado. The donated quilts join blankets, bibs, burp cloths, booties, gift bags, children’s aprons, and more to be sold to raise money for Relief Nursery operations. A quilt not sold may be raffled off during the year, while other items that do not sell are taken to the House That Art Built on Southwest Fourth Avenue in Ontario. This generous business sells items for the Nursery year-round without charging a consignment fee.

Our special thanks to Sandy Wyngaard of Mountain Home for donating a full-size quilt with 21 fat quarters given to her by the fabric company “Timeless Treasures.” This quilt was our raffle quilt, bringing in $225. A volunteer from the Ontario High School’s National Honor Society drew Amanda Gill as the lucky winner. We can’t thank Sandy enough for giving so generously of her time and talent to help us help at-risk toddlers and preschoolers stay safe.

We also must thank Vanessa Christenson for again serving as Silent Auction coordinator. We had nearly 80 items this year! And, our thanks to Mackey’s Steakhouse & Irish Pub for donating food.

2015 Baby Quilt Show & Sale Fundraiser

This year’s event raised nearly $7,000 – and we aren’t done yet. Baby quilts and other items can still be purchased at The House That Art Built and TWC Inspire, in Ontario. It takes hundreds to make this a successful event: quilters, crafters, volunteers, vendors, sponsors – and shoppers.

Check out this slide show to see just how fun this year’s event was.

We’ll have some surprises at next year’s Quilt Show; see you there!

2015 Baby Quilt Show Slideshow

For us, the Baby Quilt Show is an amazing illustration of how much our community cares for its children. Each donor has put dozens – maybe a hundred – hours of time into creating that quilt from choosing fabric to cutting squares to stitching each piece together. Yet, each quilt is handed to us with the words, “You use this however best helps the nursery; whether you sell it or give it to a little one, I want to help.” What a wonderful place the western Treasure Valley is to live!

While last year’s event featured quilters from as far as Mountain Home and Washington State, this year we had a quilt come from Colorado – and that entrant, Carolyn Green, won in our Best Theme/Traditional category! Other winners were Rose Grandmason, Payette, Judges’ Top Quilter Award; Charline Stoaks, Vale, Best Theme/Contemporary category; and Linda McLaughlin, Weiser, People’s Choice Award. Each winner received a $25 gift certificate to The Charm Shack quilt shop in Ontario, and a custom made hanging quilt rack from Herbert Miller Cabinets, Ontario. Each quilt rack is valued at $180. So, if you are a quilter, or know someone who is, be sure to watch for an announcement in January about the theme for our 2016 event for a chance to win over $200 in prizes!
